Her sister Linda serves in the House of Representatives as the congresswoman from the 38th District of California. Sánchez was born January 7, 1960, in Lynwood, California. She completed her Bachelor of Arts from Chapman University in Orange, California, in 1982 and received her Master of Business Administration from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1984. Prior to entering Congress, Sánchez worked as a financial analyst from 1984 to 1996.
While in Congress, Sánchez has served on the House Armed Services Committee, Committee on Homeland Security, Joint Economic Committee, and Strategic Forces Subcommittee.
