Randall de Sève is the New York Times Bestselling author of many picture books that have also been translated worldwide. As a parent and early childhood educator, she has experienced children’s literature as an invitation to important conversation and deep connection between people of different backgrounds and ages.
Randall’s first glimpses into worlds beyond her own came from picture books her mother read to her and stories she devoured alone once she could. HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON inspired her to let her imagination lead, BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS sent her on flights of fancy, and it’s likely that FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER led her to New York City, where she has taught young children at Saint Ann’s School and Blue School and lives with her family, including two dogs: Henry and Frog.
Randall takes any opportunity to be among children; and school visits are as much fun for her as they are for her young hosts, who enjoy discussing their writing process, reading and responding to her books, and, if they ask, seeing some photos of Randall beforeshe had braces.
