Has its cinema since the pre-independence era till today equally done justice to the depiction of the struggle? In a two-part article, SRAGDHARAMALINI DAS chronicles the eight decades of chanting the freedom struggle mantra in Bengali cinema. This is the first part of the article.

On the auspicious moment of the closing ceremony of our 75years of independence, BFA wanted to revisit the genre of patriotic films in Bengal. BFA also thought it to be important to look at how the representation of freedom struggle in Bengali screen went through changes over the decades, if at all. We are happy to present the first part of the article on the day (9th August) which marked the beginning of the Quit India movement

The popular TV channel, which airs Raj Chakraborty-directed singing reality show ‘Sangeet Er Mahajuddho’, will have a special visual treat this year on Mahalaya.It will air a special program- ‘Nabarupe Mahadurga’ on Mahalaya. Actress Jasmine Roy will also feature in this segment. She will be seen as Brahmacharini Devi, one of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Jasmine has already shot for this Mahalaya special program, which will feature none other than actress Koel Mallickas Durga.
Jasmine was all excited about the shoot. She wore a saffron saree and rudraksh mala for the shoot. The actress looked absolutely beautiful. Her make-up was beautifully done. Jasmine, who is a good dancer, enjoyed herself during the shoot of ‘Nabarupe Mahadurga’, which will feature special dance sequences.
